Trading PA might not happen since we claimed him off waivers we would have to offer him for free to any other team that put a claim in for him now I don't know if any other teams put in a claim for him but I'm going to assume there were a few, so if shero knows they will lose him for nothing I think he would end up just holding on to him for the remainder of the year

Is there a way to find out who put claims on certain players?

Bobby Ryan to NJ for??? He's about to get healthy scratched in OTT for not performing. Should we take a chance with him and have them retain some of that giant salary?

Todd,
I value your thoughts based on your detail coverage of the Devils- I am a huge fan of this team but as much as I like the moves Shero has made I am starting to lose faith that we are not much closer to really competing/making a run( meaning winning a round in the playoffs)- I am really starting to wonder if Hynes is the guy for this team? Most teams need both personnel to succeed and I think with another Playoff miss- I would bring back Stevens as HC -- my thoughts on Stevens are more about what he did for our D as assistant coach and what he's is doing in MN- not his history as a Devil.
Thoughts?
and do you think Shero brings Hynes back regardless of this season?

My own 2 cents. It's really tough to evaluate a head coach during a rebuild. At times the devils look completely outmatched. That said, there is a core group of young players led by Hall up front that could be special if they develop to their potential. I believe the biggest obstacle in a rebuild for almost any team is to stay true to the rebuild. Just because your team "competes" for a playoff spot, doesn't mean they are ready. The Devils are not ready, and need to stay patient and make the right moves.

This team has $28M in cap space with almost $9M tied up in Clowe and Savard. They have the ability to make some real moves beyond the draft and the one really good trade Shero seems to pull off each year. But they've shown no interest in spending in free agency. In this league you have to use all your resources to be successful. If they don't it'll be a long, long rebuild....

As for Hynes I agree you can't judge him now, but I think it's a reasonable opinion to believe Scott Stevens would have been a better defensive coordinator then Nesreddine. Not that it matters now. Just my two cents.

Savards contract comes off the books after this season and clowes after next season and the reason they've shown no interest in spending in free agency is because there has been nothing worth spending and when there isn't any talent in free agency players tend to get seriously overpaid and given too much term and I'm happy shero and Co have not done this because that's part of rebuilding

On one hand it's tempting but he's 29 with 5 years left and hasn't been really productive since leaving the ducks. No idea what the Sens might retain but it seems dicey and if I was going to spend big money he wouldn't be the guy. So if the Sens want to move him they need to make it palatable.

All things being equal (which of course they aren't) I'd rather save the resources for D like Shattenkirk or Fowler, but who knows if that's a possibility...

Couldn't agree more, and the 2017 UFA class doesn't look that promising in terms of players on the right side of 30 (http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/free-agents/ufa/) aside from the obvious shattenkirk and Oshie. Radulov has proven people wrong this year but i doubt we give him the term and $$ he'll want after this year. One guy i might kick the tires on is Alzner if the $$ and term make sense, sucks were stuck with that lovejoy contact two more year...if Shero finds a way to get that off our hands, he truly is a magician.

You can't spend for the sake of spending. Shero is looking for the long haul. No need to get a bad contracts that can potentially hinder us down the road. I do wish Stevens was still our D coach. That said, patience is a hard thing to have when the team is not producing.
